Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) recorded a healthy 10.6% rise in passenger numbers in April, although its cargo volumes dipped by 5.8%.
A total of 804,153 travellers passed through the gateway during the month, meaning that Amman’s gateway to the world welcomed 2.7 million passengers in the first four months of 2019.
The year-to-date (YTD) total represents a 7.4% rise on the corresponding period in 2018.
YTD aircraft movements are also up by 6.7% to 24,463 although freight, as elsewhere across the region, is down by 7.7%.
“We are pleased to further build on the positive passenger results we achieved during Q1 2019,” says Kjeld Binger, CEO of QAIA operator, Airport International Group.
“The increase was mainly driven by the Palm Sunday and Easter holidays, where people travelled back home to visit their families and others seized the opportunity to go on vacations.
“With summer well underway, we are very optimistic with regards to what the upcoming months will bring.”
