Traffic continues to soar in Cambodia, more than 10 million passengers passing through the country’s international airports this year.
It is the first time passenger numbers at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville international airports have hit the 10 million milestone.
To mark the landmark event, festivities were held all day long at the three airports with staff and key airport stakeholders joining in the celebrations.
Eric Delobel, chief executive of operator, Cambodia Airports, stressed: “The celebrations evolve around the airport community as we want to engage all our partners and to associate them with the achievement.”
The airport’s broke the eight-million passengers mark this time a year ago, so the upturn in traffic throughout 2018 has been truly remarkable.
Cambodia Airports noted that the latest milestone validates its investment in the airports over the last five years, during which time it has worked even more closely with the government of Cambodia and all stakeholders.
It attributes the steady rise in passenger numbers to the growth of tourism in Cambodia, principally driven by the new attractiveness of the country’s coastal areas, and a buoyant economy conducive to business opportunities.
Delobel noted: “Connectivity and synergies between the three airports have significantly contributed to bringing in more and more passengers to the Kingdom.
“Passengers traffic has doubled over the last five years and reached this record-high 10 million passengers.
“On a global level, we also take advantage of being part of the worldwide network of airports managed by VINCI Airports, our parent company. The business model that VINCI Airports has developed for Cambodia’s airport system has proved relevant and I am confident that it will guide us for future successes.”
