Shenzhen Airlines’ first flight to Phnom Penh today, touched down just before 2pm, before receiving the customary water cannon salute.
A welcome party in the terminal greeted all 161 passengers onboard, who also received traditional Khmer garlands.
Éric Delobel, CEO of Cambodia Airports, said: “The Chinese market is gaining prominence for both inbound and outbound traffic.
“Most of China’s major cities have established air links with our airports, providing passengers with a variety of travel options. We now off more destinations, airlines, and frequencies than ever before across our airport network.
“Our route development efforts in attracting more Chinese airlines and passengers have been rewarded handsomely this year. Cambodian authorities and tourism stakeholders have played a key role in today’s success.”
Cambodia’s target is to welcome two million Chinese visitors by 2020, and the installation of digital signage capable of displaying messages in Chinese have certainly made the country’s international airports easier to use by Chinese travellers.
